PERSPECTIVESIdeas behind the tools

Perspectives is Form Workshop’s programme of lectures and discussions on geometry, computation, digital craft and design judgement.

Through architectural examples, design processes and theoretical questions, the talks examine what tools make possible — and where human intention, skill and critical judgement remain decisive.

Perspectives can be invited as individual lectures and seminars, or become part of a Form Workshop Course.

GEOMETRY, CRAFT & COMPUTATION

Digital modelling is often described through software and technique. Form Workshop approaches it instead as a form of geometric and computational craft.

This Perspective looks at how geometric understanding, making, representation and algorithmic methods can develop together — and how technical skill can become part of architectural and artistic thinking rather than an end in itself.

AI, AUTHORSHIP & DESIGN

AI introduces new possibilities for generating, analysing and transforming design information, while raising fundamental questions about authorship, judgement and creative responsibility.

This Perspective examines what changes when parts of the design process become increasingly automated — and what remains specifically dependent on human intention, knowledge and critical judgement.

DISCUSS A PERSPECTIVE

Perspectives can be developed for architecture and design offices, universities, schools, conferences and other professional or cultural contexts.

Talks can stand alone or be combined with a Form Workshop Course, workshop or project collaboration.

TOOLS & HUMAN JUDGEMENT

Computational tools can extend what designers are able to explore, model and produce. But tools do not determine what is worth making.

This Perspective examines the relationship between technical possibility, artistic intention and critical design judgement — and asks where the designer remains decisive as computational and increasingly autonomous tools enter the design process.
